Views from above: the 3 Valleys belvedere

The Vaudioux

What if we took a little height? The “Champagnole Nozeroy Jura” area has around twenty viewpoints allowing another approach to the Jura landscapes… Zoom in on the 3 Valleys belvedere, which overlooks the village of Syam and its bucolic valley.

A generous nature

On the territory of the commune of Le Vaudioux, it is under cover that a developed path winds up to the 3 Valleys belvedere. From this observatory, the view takes in a particularly green panorama – the area of the commune of Syam. Below, we can also see the legendary “Hirondelles line”: this railway route runs through the Jura for more than 120 kilometers, via a succession of viaducts built on the mountainside.

And 1, and 2, and 3 streams!

The belvedere is ideally placed to observe the work of water and the masterpiece of erosion within these thousand-year-old valleys. It is in fact here that three tumultuous rivers of the region meet: the Lemme, the Saine and the Ain. Over nearly 17 kilometers, the first crosses around ten villages. Along the way, it shapes gorges and waterfalls before watering the plain and confluence with the Saine. The latter, which has its source in Foncine-le-Haut at nearly 900 meters above sea level, descends the mountain via spectacular faults.
It then receives the waters of the Lemme before joining the Ain river as it meanders.

To extend the ride...

In the immediate vicinity of the viewpoint, many other natural or heritage curiosities are to be discovered. The losses of the Ain (Bourg-de-Sirod), the Billaude waterfall (Le Vaudioux), the Villa Palladienne... and even a contemporary art gallery, “Biz'Art Biz'Art”! (Le Vaudioux)

The 3 Valleys belvedere is accessible on foot: from the Billaude waterfall car park (Le Vaudioux), follow the marked path (2,3 km) to the viewpoint. The walk can be done in a loop or in a round trip.
