Dinosaur track site

Pets

Discovered in the fall of 2004, the Loulle dinosaur track site constitutes an exceptional testimony to the history of the Earth and the Jura Massif. It is the oldest dinosaur track site in the Jura Arc.

Nearly 1500 dinosaur footprints were noted there by paleontologists from the University of Lyon 1 and the CNRS. They correspond to 21 tracks of sauropod dinosaurs (herbivores) and 6 of theropod dinosaurs (carnivores) including those of a giant animal currently unknown in Europe.

Without protection, the fragility of the limestone slab, the winter frost and the trampling of visitors led to an irremediable alteration of this exceptional site. A large part of the site is now protected. A walkway and panels allow you to understand the environment in which dinosaurs evolved during the Jurassic period, 155 million years ago.

Free access. Please respect the site by staying on the designated route.
