Phil Racines

Becoming a carpenter in 1983, Philippe Jouham took over the family business “Jouham Charpente Menuiserie” seven years later. But health concerns forced him to abandon carpentry work to devote himself to the management and accounting of “JCM”. To continue handling wood (a material to which he has always had a real passion), the entrepreneur then returns to his fundamentals. From a very young age, Philippe has been fascinated by nature in general, and trees in particular: “I often go to the woods and bring roots home to give them a second life. » And under his fingers, the roots become works of art...

It was in December 2015, in Macornay, that Philippe “took the plunge” (with the help of his wife Nadine) and exhibited his sculptures for the first time. Since then, it is in Montrond, in his workshop, that Phillippe Jouham, alias
“Phil Racines”, gives free rein to his creativity and imagination. From roots found in the forest or offered by friends (simple walkers or woodworking professionals), he creates works that are always unique. A work that requires precision and patience, since Phil scrapes, sands and shapes his creations (sculptures or everyday objects) for hours in order to highlight the root movements and the beauty of the veining...

Today known well beyond the limits of the Montrond territory and even the "com-com", "Phil Racines" is regularly invited to participate in art and craft exhibitions (at the cardboard factory of Mesnay or at the Chamole chapel for example). Some of his works are also exhibited in public establishments where they never fail to challenge visitors, such as at the “Le Bois Gourmand” restaurant in Champagnole. Others are visible in situ in his workshop, where Phil always welcomes lovers of “beautiful work” with pleasure.

At the same time, and although root sculpture remains his primary passion, Philippe also now practices wood turning, after having been trained with the Franche-Comté turners' association.
