Hermitage of Notre-Dame de Mièges

Not far from the Cluniac priory, sits a high place of Jura religious worship: the Hermitage of Notre-Dame de Mièges. It is said that in the 15th century, a knight quenching his thirst in a spring called “Sainte Fontaine” saw a statue of the Virgin of Montaigu. He therefore decided to take his discovery to the Saint-Germain church but the following day, it was found a few meters further.

An oratory was then built there to place the statue, then a chapel, before a hermit established himself there in 1613. Since that day, pilgrims came in large numbers and several miraculous healings were recognized, including that of 'a blind child who would have regained his sight. Each year, two pilgrimages bring together the faithful of the canton in the village of Mièges, one in the spring, the other in the fall.

The Hermitage chapel is freely accessible. It is open every day from 8 a.m. to 17 p.m.
