Pleasures of the table

A territory of a thousand flavors...

Don't (above all) miss out on the local gastronomy, which is one of the great pleasures of a stay in the Jura! When we talk about local products, we quickly understand the passion of our producers: attached to a generous territory, they are keen to share their know-how. In addition to King Comté, many other country cheeses and local specialties remain to be discovered – cold meats, biscuits, jams, chocolates, honey, lemonades, beers… Among all these delights, some will undoubtedly appear in the “top 10” of your taste memories…

An amber treasure

If honey, a precious nectar with subtle flavors, is consumed alone in different forms, it also goes perfectly with other local products such as Bleu de Gex or Morteau sausage... The different varieties of honey that you will find on the territory come from small farms, which allows beekeepers to control the quality of their products. These enthusiasts put the well-being of their little “workers” at the forefront, eager to participate in saving the species in a responsible environmental approach.

From their harvests from hives scattered here and there in the Jura, they offer exceptional products, with unique tastes and textures: dandelion honey, with a discreet flavor; spring honey, creamy and fruity; mountain honey, rich in minerals... or even fir and forest honeys, with pronounced resinous aromas... Some, rarer, like raspberry honey and maple honey, might well surprise you!
Other delicacies, based on bee products, are also to be discovered: gingerbread, beggars, nougat, candies, propolis, pollen and royal jelly...

A good tip: meet the talented beekeepers of the Compagnie des Butineuses (Le Latet), Jurbee (Saffloz), Miel des Toines (Foncine-le-Haut), Miellerie des Hautes-Joux (Les Chalesmes) or the Miellerie de la Combe d’Ain (Montigny-sur-l’Ain). Their products are sold directly on site, as well as in other points of sale in the area, such as delicatessens or fruit shops.

Focus on... the Apiary of Bayard

Foncine le Haut

It is in the Haute-Vallée de la Saine that the Rucher du Bayard association operates, born in 2011 from a group of beekeepers. Located in a “Natura 2” protected area, it brings together around fifteen bee colonies as well as a covered and glazed hive for educational purposes, which allows beekeepers to explain the astonishing work of the little foragers.

Visits always end with a friendly tasting of mid-mountain honeys, extracted directly on site!
